Well, the week we've been waiting for is here. At long last, the shell is arriving. Hard to believe the thing I've seen in my mind will be viewable in front of me very soon.
A bit of prep required in these past couple of weeks...not much activity, for which I must say I've been grateful, it's been a good exhale and pause getting ready for this month's sequence of events.
First, the patios were covered with protective fabric, a plastic sheeting and plywood. The beautiful broom finishes could easily get chipped or generally messed up with construction activity, people walking, dropping things, you name it. So the protection will be there until we're pretty much done and ready to let them be walked on.
We also now have power down to the site, so everything can run off electricity instead of the generator from here on out. This little blue box is called a spider box, with about 10 outlets on it.
Jeff Torr, the Deltec home assembly consultant (who lives outside Houston) arrived today. He is a retired contractor who has supported the assembly of hundreds of these homes, since 1981! A gem of a human being, he will ensure the delivery truck is unloaded efficiently and prepare the materials for assembly to optimize efficiency. He then leads the crew that will assemble the shell and the roof.
So here's the schedule:
Monday: 8am the truck is at the truck yard for unloading and transfer to the shuttle trailers. Materials are transported to the site and readied for the next day.
Tuesday: the walls go up, and some of the roof trusses potentially
Wednesday: Roof truss work completed (weather permitting, it might be wet!)
Thursday: Roof deck installed (plywood) and that should be completed on Friday
It has rained a bit here in the past week...it's a wet grey time - no downpours but enough wet to make the earth around the house really nasty to try and work in...I am so grateful for the professionals who are going to do this work!
