The winter rains here were more than welcomed...they replenished reservoirs, raised the water table to levels that eliminate the need for people (mostly) to truck in water, calmed crunchy nerves related to wildfire risk, and now is producing abundant vegetation the likes of which we haven't seen in quite a while.
What's left behind also includes standing water. And there's a bunch of it on the house site.
I LOVE the sedges that pop up all over the place and hope to preserve and relocate these for planting later - they're here because there's water running through this part of the site. One take on this is - damn, gotta redirect the water - and that's true, french drains under ground will be required to redirect the water to appropriate drainage infrastructure and away from where the foundation will be. Another take on it is, how cool this land is cleansed routinely! 😊
Waiting for that to dry up a bit more before the next round of vegetation clearing. I shared that a year ago, I did one round of veg clearing and it's time for another around the perimeter of the house pad. Bunches of things sprouted back, defiant at the attempt at their annihilation. It's also going to be helpful not only to remove the broom and pines that are fire fuel, but to eradicate the poison oak and generally enlarge the envelope for the grading work that will be done once the permit is issued.
